Nursing Shortage and Burnout
There is a nursing shortage in the United States and there are some ways to combat this. One,
is to increase the number of Nurse Teachers. The best way to do this is to hire more of them
and increase nursing teachers pay to make it more attractive. This will allow they’re to be more
students because nursing school is very competitive and difficult. The second is to increase
nurse retention. The third is to allow nurses with foreign education/foreigners to take tests that
allow them to practice in the United States. Allowing nurses to be able to transfer nurse exams
from one state to another will allow greater mobility and more nurses able to practice. This is a
national problem especially since covid when so many of them resigned or quit due to burnout.
It effects the healthcare system and impacts hospitals and doctor’s offices which create worse
health outcomes for patients.
Info from 2020
“10 of thousands of qualified nurses are turned away every year from Colleges and
Universities.”
Info from 2022
Putting money into this will increase life expectancy, create jobs, and create better health
outcomes for patients. It may also lessen the amount of money spent on healthcare over the
course of a patient’s life especially in mental health care or patients who go to the ER.
